Today we had a long driving day, heading from Louisiana to Texas. We have not stayed at a Thousand Trails in three weeks and as nice as the other resorts have been, we have missed TT's and are excited to be returning.
Even though we were only here one week, we loved Louisiana. We will stay longer during our next trip so we can explore some more. We thought the food here was fabulous. We all gained weight this past week, but it was well worth it!

Sunshine on my Shoulder
I haven't talked about our cats in some time because to be honest, they don't make for exciting writing material usually. They've grown up and matured which means they spend most of their days eating and sleeping and staring at us when they want something.
My cat is brilliant and I'm not just saying that because she is mine. She will come and butt you with her head and make head motions towards what she wants when she wants something. She is also a major control freak and thinks we all work for her. She's taken up a habit otherwise known as peeing on the blankets of people who make her mad. So I have to sometimes work at tolerating Miss Mimi. She doesn't always make it easy.
Shine on the other hand is pure delight and he's the one that boosts my ego each and every time I'm around him. Shine is our cat that we joke is half dog because he gets so excited when we give him attention and he LOVES touch. He is touchy feely to an extreme. He purrs when he just thinks about us petting him. He came with the name Shine, but I call him Sunshine because he is often the bright spot when I'm having a dreary day.
Case in point, he just has to reach out and touch someone with his reassuring hand (paw), even when asleep:
I'm not saying he is my favorite, just saying he is my Sunshine.

A Bike Accident
Normally when you hear bike accident, you think of a person riding on a bike and having an accident occur while doing so. In our case, bike accident refers to a bike having an accident by itself. 
Austin's bike fell off the bike rack, bounced a time or two before someone stopped to grab it and move it to the side of the road. Given the fact that bike riding is one of the few things we all equally enjoy, this was a very sad thing. We will have to replace his bike when we get to Texas.
Lesson learned-triple secure the bikes while on the rack.

New Orleans
Although it was raining today, we still decided to go to the Big Easy to spend some time in the French Quarter. Thanks to a few friends' recommendations, we knew the scoop on the best places to eat and where to go and what to see while there. 
It was such a cool place, we'd have been content just to walk around and look at the sites.
There is just so much more to see than the beautiful buildings.
Our music lover was in heaven with the live music that was there.
And the food was hands down voted the best out of everything we've had so far on our trip!
Even the National Park was full of live music with a jazz performance in full swing. You just can't go wrong with a place that has great food and great music.
It was hard to take pictures due to the rain, but when it stopped for a few minutes here and there, I snapped enough to have some memories.
This trip we were just passing through so we knew we wouldn't have much time here, but next time we will want to spend lots of time in this unique place. We think this will easily be one of our faves!

Tammany Trace in LA
Auburn and I are on the mend, so we headed over to the Tammany Trace Rails to Trails path to do some more serious bike riding. We started in the park in Abita Springs and rode to Covington and then back.
If you haven't biked or hiked on one of these paths, the rail-trails are paths that used to be railroad corridors. 
It allows a wonderful combination of nature paths that are nicely paved.
It also allows for some interesting scenery along the way, which has me wanting to stop often to take pictures.
This is Ace after we were halfway there. He works much harder than us of course, because he runs while we bike. He loves it!

Robertsdale AL to Abita Springs LA
We said goodbye to Alabama and headed to Louisiana today, landing in Abita Springs. We are very excited to be able to visit New Orleans! We also ate our first taste of a Louisiana food item which was King Cake. We are not huge cake eaters and weren't sure exactly what this was, but I can safely say we all love it and will be adding this to the list of sweet things we adore. Yummy!
