It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time...

Today we are remembering September 11th, along with the rest of our nation. One thing I remember about that event is what happened afterward, when our country pulled together.

It was a fitting thing then that we had to rely on the help of our fellow men today and that they stepped up in a most gracious manner. Ever since we've entered the states where drivable beaches are a possibility, Nathan has wanted to go and drive on the beach. Tonight we drove over to do just that.

One of the first things we saw was this:Awwwww, right? It's a couple riding their horses on the beach. I was so excited to be able to experience that while we are driving along the beach. I'm saying to the guys...how cool is that? And within a few minutes this is what I snapped from my window:Yes, it is one rider, leading the other horse. And the reason she is doing that, is because her cowboy was behind our truck doing this:Yes, folks, we are being towed because the non-locals managed to get themselves stuck in the sand and when I say stuck, I mean really stuck. The gentleman and his son behind us, and the cowboy horse rider both had to use their trucks to get us unstuck.

Now, while I am sitting there mortified over all of this, I realize that I do want to remember this on our blog (since I write this for our kids). But Austin doesn't want me to get out and actually take pictures of this disaster because that would be even more embarrassing. I see the significant other of the cowboy is snapping pictures so I go over and ask her if she can email them to me please! She graciously agreed, so I'll add her pictures when I get them.

Oh, and if you are reading this, I rudely forgot to ask your and the other couple's names so I could publicly thank you. I'll try to do the next best thing-thank you so much to you and your cowboy for all the help and being so sweet about it!

BTW, the two horses they were riding are rescue horses, so I think they are especially neat people just for that reason. The cowboy is from close to our home base in Florida, so Austin now has hope that he can still be a cowboy even though he is from South Florida.

While I did not enjoy getting stuck, it was so touching to be sitting there pondering that the spirit of our nation that was demonstrated after 9-11, is still alive and well in our country.Living the life in Washington!

Love this! One of the things I spent a lot of time thinking about yesterday is *choices* and where they lead us, what they create. There are so many beautiful stories of "eveyday heroes" on 9/11; and I love your everyday hero story as well.

Oh wow. I love reminders that people aren't always just out for themselves, and love when people help other people. :)

Oh, and I think one of my life mottos is it seemed like a good idea at the time. ;)
